CSTO Summit kicks off in Bishkek

Bishkek, Nov. 28, 2019. / Kabar/. The session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has started at Ala-Archa state residence in Bishkek. By tradition, the president of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov meets the distinguished guests in the lobby. After a brief welcome and photograph, distinguished guests are invited to the waiting room. According to the program, the summit will be held in two formats: narrow and extended. The session in Bishkek will be attended by Presidents of Belarus - Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakhstan - Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Russia - Vladimir Putin, Tajikistan - Emomali Rakhmon, as well as Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev and Acting Secretary General CSTO Valery Semerikov. More than 260 foreign and local media representatives cover the CSTO Summit in Bishkek. According to the official website of the Organization, the agenda includes discussion of problems of international and regional security, issues of strengthening the Tajik-Afghan border, interaction with the United Nations on the implementation of the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and coordination of the foreign policy activities of the CSTO member states, development of the Organization’s military potential and improvement of interaction to challenges and threats, including in the field of information security, as well as events to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Victory in World War II. Reportedly, during the meeting a number of documents will be signed, including those related to financial and organizational activities in the permanent statutory bodies of the CSTO and it is planned to approve the organization’s budget for 2020. The main political document will be the statement of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization on improving international cooperation and interaction in order to strengthen global and regional security initiated by Kyrgyzstan. In addition, within the framework of the summit, the Kyrgyz President will hold bilateral meetings with all the leaders of the countries.
