EC Postpones Redelineation Exercise To Focus On 13th General Election

KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 (Bernama) -- The election Commission (EC) has decided to not carry out the redelineation of electoral boundaries yet to enable it to focus on preparations for the 13th general election. Deputy Finance Minister Dr Awang Adek Hussein said a new redelineation exercise for the peninsula and East Malaysia state of Sabah could be carried out after the expiry of the last exercise, which was on March 21, 2011. "But because election is expected to be held soon, the focus will be on preparing for the 13th general election," he said when winding up the debate on the Supplementary Supply Bill (2012) 2012 in the Senate on Wednesday. Awang Adek said the new redelineation of electoral boundaries for Sabah would expire on June 10, 2013. He said the redelineation exercise was carried out based on Schedule 13 of the Federal Constitution. "The process involves all quarters to provide views and feedbacks to ensure the exercise is done fairy and according to the law," he added. -- BERNAMA
