Federal Supreme Court to hand down verdict on Muslim Brotherhood cell on Jan. 21

Abu Dhabi: The State Security District of the Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi has announced that it will issue its verdict on the case of the Muslim Brotherhood cell on 21st January 2014, and has requested defence lawyers to present written pleading one week before that date. The court held yesterday its fifth hearing during which defence lawyers presented oral statements, calling for the acquittal of the accused. Fifteen accused appeared before presiding judge Mohammed Al Jarah Al Tanaiji, while nine others were absent. Today's session was attended by two lawyers of the accused, 13 representatives of the media, four representatives of civil society organisations (two from the Emirates Human Rights Association, one each from the Emirates Jurists Lawyers Association, and the Emirates Writers' Union), six relatives of the accused and a representative of the Egyptian Embassy. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
