FM: Armenian Ambassador’s statements over Turkish PM unfounded

Azerbaijan, Baku, April 1 / Trend A. Taghiyeva /
The statements of Armenian Ambassador to the UN and UNESCO in Switzerland Charles Aznavour that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan hates Armenians and Greeks are unfounded and wrong, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
According to the report, Turkey welcomes Aznavour's initiatives on the normalisation of Turkish-Armenian relations.
"Despite the fact we do not agree over certain points of the initiative proposed by Aznavour, Ankara welcomes his recommendations to hold a direct dialogue between the parties to reveal the historical facts," the Foreign Ministry said.
According to the report, Charles Aznavour said earlier that the Turkish Prime Minister hates Armenians and Greeks. Aznavour also called on the parties to start a dialogue and voiced a number of recommendations for holding one and normalising the relations between Turkey and Armenia.
Turkey and Armenia have no diplomatic relations and the border between the countries has been closed since 1993. This was caused by Armenian claims for international recognition of the so-called "genocide" and occupation of Azerbaijani territories.
