Foreign Minister’s visit to China commences

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Minister of Foreign Affairs Ts.Munkh-Orgil held an official talk, and exchanged views on bilateral cooperation and international and regional matters with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Monday, February 20 as his two-day visit to Mongolia’s southern neighbor began. By invitation of the latter, the Foreign Minister is currently on an official visit to the People’s Republic of China. The Foreign Ministers expressed their satisfaction at the intensively developing bilateral ties, reiterated their intentions to expand bilateral relations into a new context, and talked about the opportunities to do so. While emphasizing on the significance of maintaining the frequency of mutual high-level visits, sides agreed on a visit of Mongolia’s Prime Minister to People’s Republic of China, and organizing the second joint meeting of regular parliamentary exchange mechanism between Mongolia and China and the first meeting of Mongolia-China Council on Minerals, Energy and Infrastructure. The sides touched upon many other areas including ‘Steppe Road’ and ‘One Belt and One Road’ initiatives, ‘Border port and regulations’ agreement, export of minerals and animal products and ‘Agreement on Mongolia’s access to sea and ship transport through People’s Republic of China’ which has been approved by the Chinese side. The sides also highlighted their mutual prioritization of trilateral cooperation between Mongolia, China and Russia. Minister Munkh-Orgil’s invitation to visit Mongolia at his convenience was appreciated by Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Following their meeting, the Foreign Ministers held a press briefing after which Mongolian Foreign Minister proceeded to give an interview to Hong Kong based ‘Phoenix’ television. The Foreign Minister’s visit is to continue tomorrow, February 21.
