Foreign Ministry calls for further humanitarian partnership with UNHCR
Abu Dhabi, March 17, 2013 (WAM) - Dr. Saeed Mohammed Al Shamsi, Assistant Foreign Minister for International Organisations, received yesterday Imran Riza, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and GCC Regional Representative in Riyadh, and his accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on issues related to the refugees and UNHCR's stance towards the Syrian refugees.
Imran Riza expressed his thanks and appreciation for the role that UAE plays in the international humanitarian scene which is experiencing tremendous challenges due to the escalating events and crisis in a number of the countries around the world, lauding the food and relief efforts provided by the charitable and humanitarian organisations in the UAE and their positive contribution in alleviating humanitarian crises.
For his part, Al Shamsi commended the role the UNHCR assumes worldwide and in zones of conflicts in particular. He also lauded its rapid response, effective evaluation of humanitarian needs, delivery of assistance, fund-raising, capacity building and rallying support to achieve international peace and harmony. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
