FORMER INDONESIAN PRESIDENT SPEAKS AT CHINA WORLD PEACE FORUM

Beijing, June 27 (Antara) - Former Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono spoke at the fourth World Peace Forum (WPF) in Beijing, China, on Saturday. As an honorary guest at the WPF, Yudhoyono talked about the importance of security cooperation, along with former French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin and former Japanese prime minister Yukio Hatoyama. Yudhoyono also appeared in the first panel of the forum, which was initiated in 2006 in Shengen. This year, participants at the World Peace Forum are discussing the theme "Overcome Difficulties: Understanding, Consultation, and Reciprocity." Besides Yudhoyono, the other speakers in the forum included former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, who talked about Asia Pacific security cooperation, and former secretary of the Russian Federation Federal Security Council Igor Ivanov, who discussed Europe and International Security Cooperation. Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao, in his opening speech, said security issues were complex, with diverse backgrounds becoming the focus of the international community. He noted that international cooperation is necessary to find a solution by involving many parties, including governments, the private sector, non-governmental institutions, practitioners and actors, as well as experts on security issues. WPF aims to establish international cooperation, to exchange views and experiences in order to develop new ideas, concepts and approaches, as well as to create stability and peace in the world. ***2***
