Former president expects Afghanistan to enter SCO

Afghanistan may enter the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the country’s former president Hamid Karzai told TASS on the sidelines of the 14th annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club on Thursday. "Absolutely, we want it very much and we hope that Russia can help us. It will definitely happen," he said. According to the former Afghan president, Kabul supports "Russia's initiatives on Afghanistan for peace and stability." "We also support the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's initiatives on Afghanistan, we believe that this organization has all the important states of this region as members and the tools to help Afghanistan," Karzai added.
