Gargash slams Iraqi Prime Minister's statements

Abu Dhabi: Dr. Anwar Gargash, the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, yesterday summoned the Iraqi Ambassador to the UAE, Muwaffaq Mehdi Abboud, to deliver to him a memorandum in which the United Arab Emirates expressed its condemnation of the statement by Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Maliki and his allegation that the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia provides support for terrorism. Dr Gargash said that these statements are totally without foundation and are not based on any correct assessment of the situation in the region with regards to terrorism, especially because the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia plays a prominent role in fighting terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Dr Gargash stressed that the UAE, out of its commitment and role in fighting the epidemic of terrorism, greatly appreciates the contributions by Saudi Arabia in this field and commends its policies and its practical initiatives that are intended to uproot the phenomenon of terrorism. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
