Georgia’s participation at Sochi Olympic Games under review

Georgia, Tbilisi, April 1 / Trend N. Kirtzkhalia /
The Georgian government has not made a final decision regarding its participation in the Sochi Olympic Games, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani said at a briefing today.
"There was a view that Georgia has not announced a boycott to the Sochi Olympic Games, but the final decision has not been made yet," he said. "A decision will be made soon about the form of Georgia's participation in Olympic Games."
The issue of Georgia's participation at the Sochi Olympic Games will be resolved by the Georgian National Organising Committee, which will gather in Tbilisi soon.
Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.
Russia recognised the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognised republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
