Georgia included in planning for reorganization of ISAF mission of NATO

Georgia, Tbilisi, April 2 / Trend, N. Kirtskhalia / Georgia is included in the planning process for reorganization of the ISAF mission of NATO, Defense Minister Irakli Alasania said on Tuesday. According to him, NATO will have adopted a decision for self-reorganization and mandate until the end of April, and then Georgia will decide how it will be represented in the mission of the military contingent of ISAF in Afghanistan. "When speaking about ISAF mission, you know that a new mission should be created in 2014, the mandate will be qualitatively new, and thereby NATO will have to make a new decision in connection with the form of conducting this international operation," he said. The Minister highlighted that Georgia is already included in the planning process. "When I met with the NATO and ISAF ministers in Brussels, I announced the position of Georgian Government saying that we are ready to continue supporting the defense and security in Afghanistan and after 2014," he said. According to Alasania, Georgia will transform the character of its participation in the mission towards rendering aid and learning experience. "We have specialists like engineers and pilots, which can be prepared on-site. I discussed this issue in detail with the Afghan minister, also touching upon the educational programs" he said. The minister thinks that the decision of NATO on self-reorganization and mandate, as well as Georgian participation in the process, will become precise roughly by the end of April. "The political will is present. I also assume that while the size of conventional forces in Afghanistan is being reduced, the size of special forces will increase, therefore, we express our readiness also in this respect," Alasania said.е предполагаю, что когда сокращается численность конвенционных сил, в самом Афганистане возрастет число сил специального назначения, исходя из этого мы выражаем готовность и в этом плане", - - сказал Аласания.
