Georgian Defense Ministry to analyze course of military operations during August war

Georgia, Tbilisi, April 10 / Trend, N. Kirtzkhalia / In the near future, Georgia will assess the military operations taken during the August war, Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Alasania said in an interview with "Channel 9" TV. He said this will not be a political assessment, but the analysis of how the reserve worked, and why villages were not evacuated. Alasania said that many questions arose, including how the eight billion that has been allocated to the army has been used and what the cause of the defeat of the Georgian military was. "The international community does not agree to the changes as a result of the border wars. But we really want to know why Georgia was not able to defend itself in order to have a real doctrine preventing such a case in the future," Alasania said. Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military. Russia recognised the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognised republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories. Do you have any feedback?
