Georgian President's administration releases statement in connection with Russian military exercise

Georgia, Tbilisi, April 3 / Trend, N. Kirtskhalia /
Georgia is very concerned about the unplanned military exercises carried out by Russia without any notice, according to a statement released on the official web page of Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili on Wednesday, saying that the last exercises in the Black Sea are the most widescale maneuvers carried out by the Russian Federation since the military actions against Georgia in 2008.
"While Georgia is adherent to the statement of the non-use of force made by the President of Georgia in November 23, 2010 and is implementing its obligations under the ceasefire agreement signed between Russia and Georgia 12 August 2008 with of the mediation of the EU, Russia is violating its fundamental norms of international law by not fulfilling cease-fire agreement and it refuses to adhere to its commitment of non-agression against Georgia," the statement says.
Thereby, such actions committed without notification can create threat not only for Georgia, but for the whole region, the statement says.
Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered to start of exercises in the Black Sea. They involve about 7,000 troops, 30 ships, 250 armored vehicles and 50 artillery pieces for different purposes, up to 20 combat aircraft and helicopters, rapid deployment forces, airborne troops and Special Forces. Sudden exercises are being held in the region where the Olympic Games will be held in Sochi in less than a year. Security of this region has been declared a priority for law enforcement bodies and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
However, the Georgian Foreign Ministry expressed its concern over the military exercises undertaken by Russia in the Black Sea region. Georgia considers these exercises disproportionate to the anticipated threats and not being in the interests of stability in Europe.
