German MP Urges West To Hold 'Serious Talks' With Iran

Berlin, Feb 22, IRNA - A German legislator of the opposition party The Left (Die Linke) on Tuesday called on the West to conduct 'serious talks' with Iran aimed at ending the impasse over Tehran's nuclear program. Talking to Deutschland radio, Niema Movassat urged the West 'to return to the negotiation table' in a bid to resolve the Iranian nuclear standoff. What we definitely need to have is a dialogue between the West and Iran, the German lawmaker of Iranian descent was quoted as saying. Movassat who is the vice-chairman of the German-Iranian Parliamentary Group, stressed the West had to show its willingness and readiness to engage in 'serious talks.' The MP said the West had to ponder specific proposals which could be of interest to Iran. He reiterated imposing new sanctions against Tehran and making military threats were 'not helpful' in settling the Iranian nuclear issue. Movassat also made it clear that Tehran's security concerns had to be addressed by the West./end
