Handing of credentials to the President of RK
Astana, 28 November 2008 (Khabar) - President receives credentials from newly appointed ambassadors. Nursultan Nazarbayev has received the credentials of new ambassadors from Uzbekistan, Spain, Qatar and Cuba. It is Farrukh Tursunov who was appointed the new ambassador of Uzbekistan to Kazakhstan. Receiving his credential, Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that ties with Tashkent are amongst the priority ones in the Republic’s foreign policy as they are of a strategic nature and aimed at fraternal partnership.
Alberto Cortes is the new ambassador of Spain to Kazakhstan. Taking the floor, he stated that the volume of cooperation between Astana and Madrid has to match those personal relationships between Nursultan Nazarbayev and Juan Carlos I of Spain.

- In August this year, Kazakhstan adopted its programme called “A way to Europe” with the aim of expanding and deepening relations with European Union countries. We consider Spain as one of the key partners in the implementation of this programme.
In 2010, Kazakhstan is set to take the chair at the OSCE while Spain will chair the European Union. Such a coincidence may give a boost to the relationship between the European Union and Central Asia. Apart from the political and economic part of his mission, the Spanish ambassador also pointed out cultural and humanitarian ties. In particular, the diplomat hopes to make his contribution to the popularization of the Spanish language in Kazakhstan.
Meanwhile, the new ambassador of Cuba to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Abelardo Fabio Ernandes Ferrer recalled those long-lasting relations with the Republic as well as the humanitarian aid which Kazakhstan provided to his country after the destructive Hurricane Gustav. The Cuban diplomat is convinced that those thousands of miles between the two states will not interfere with the cooperation of the two countries.

- I will work to expand economic ties. And Kazakhstan’s experience in oil sphere and mineral’s extraction and succeses of Cuba in healthcare and sport will become the basis of my work.

Naser Rashid Mukhamed al-Naimi was appointed ambassador of Qatar to Kazakhstan. His mission is expected to go beyond bilateral cooperation as the diplomat is paying great attention to Kazakhstan’s global initiatives such as “the dialogue of civilizations” project.

During his meeting with foreign diplomats, Nursultan Nazarbayev also touched upon the current financial crisis and economic recession. The President also stated that the newly appointed ambassadors are starting their work in Kazakhstan at a hard but interesting time.
