Iran-Afghan Officials Visit Joint Borders

Zahedan, Feb 16, IRNA - The Iranian deputy interior minister along with his Afghan counterpart visited the joint borders in the northern part of Sistan Baluchistan province on Wednesday. Accompanied by a number of political, military and police officials, they visited the Hirmand river banks along Iran-Afghanistan border. Hirmand city governor Mohammad Gomrokizadeh told IRNA that both countries’ officials inspected the border reinforcements, reviewing the feasibility of a plan to close the northern borders to stop cross border drug-trafficking. Full closure of the border between Sistan and Baluchistan province and Afghanistan and Pakistan would enable Iran to safeguard majority of its border lines except a short stretch of high lands in southeast Iran./end
