Iran-Ajaria Autonomous Rep To Expand Comprehensive Ties

Baku, Dec 17, IRNA – The Council General of Iran in a meeting in Batumi with the head of Georgia’s Autonomous Republic of Ajaria Friday surveyed ways for comprehensive expansion of ties between both the countries in tourism, cultural and economic fields. Ahmad-Reza Arzjani added in his meeting with His Eminence Levan Varshalomidze, “Eighty-four years after the establishment of the Head Consulate of Iran in Batumi, this is a turning point in expansion of relations between Iran and Georgia.” Emphasizing the need for the expansion of cultural ties between Iran and Georgia, Arzjani said, “Beyond doubt the two countries cultural and non-governmental cooperation would influence greatly the process of expansion of friendly relations between Iran and Georgia.” The Head of Georgia’s Autonomous Republic of South Georgia, Varshalomidze, too, in the meeting expressed delight over the beginning of tenure of the new Iranian Consul General in Batumi, reiterating, “Georgia is ready for comprehensive expansion of ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran is tourism, cultural and economic fields.” The head of Ajaria Autonomous Republic also expressed hope that in near future he would visit Iran’s East and West Azarbaijan Provinces and have meeting with those provinces governor generals. Islamic Republic of Iran’s Consulate General was established in Georgia’s Batumi city last year, but Iran’s Council General Ahmad-Reza Arzjani as appointed at the post recently./end
