Iran writes to intl. organizations over U.S. drone incursion

TEHRAN, Dec.19 (MNA) – Iran has sent letters to a number of international organizations over the recent violation of the country’s airspace by a U.S. spy drone, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi announced on Monday. Letters have been sent to the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement in this regard, Salehi told reporters in Tehran on Sunday. The minister also said the advanced RQ-170 unmanned U.S. plane is currently in Iran’s possession. Salehi added making decisions on the aircraft falls within the ambit of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. Asked about the CIA-linked spy recently arrested in Iran, Salehi said, “The issue of the arrest of the spy is related to the Intelligence Ministry, and if it is necessary to voice protest in this regard, the Intelligence Ministry will inform us so that the necessary measures would be taken.” Elsewhere in his remarks, Salehi said that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will visit Armenia in the near future to discuss bilateral issues with the country’s officials.
