Iranian, Armenian FMs discuss ties

TEHRAN, Nov.9 (MNA) – During a meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and his Armenian counterpart Eduard Nalbandian, which was held in Yerevan on Tuesday, the two sides discussed regional and bilateral issues. At the meeting, Salehi described Tehran-Yerevan relations as historical and close and emphasized the necessity to promote ties in all spheres. He also commented on the recent agreements reached between the two countries and called for an acceleration of efforts to implement the agreements. The Iranian foreign minister also said that the two countries should prepare the ground for further cooperation in all areas such as power transmission, transportation, and transfer of petroleum products. The Armenian foreign minister commented on the upcoming trip of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Armenia and expressed hope that the trip, which marks a milestone in the relations between the two countries, would be fruitful and constructive. Salehi also held talks late on Tuesday with Armenian parliament speaker Hovik Abrahamyan on regional and international issues.
