Iranian MP dismisses Israel threats as political bluff

TEHRAN, Nov. 8 (MNA) – Iranian MP Esmaeil Kowsari dismissed as “a political and military bluff” the Zionist regime’s threats of military action against the Islamic Republic. Kowsari, who is the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee deputy chairman, made the remarks on Monday in response to Israeli President Shimon Peres, who said on November 4 that a military option to stop Iran from obtaining what he called “nuclear weapons” was nearer. “Recent threats made by officials of the U.S. and the Zionist regime are a political and military bluff. The Zionist regime and the U.S. are in no position to attack Iran,” the lawmaker said. “The U.S. and the Zionist regime are gripped by an intense fear and great concern in dealing with developments in the region and the world. And after losing their strongholds and illegitimate interests in regional countries, they are trying to extricate themselves from this situation,” he said. The combined effects of losing regional allies, the protests on Wall Street against the capitalist system, and U.S. defeats in Iraq and Afghanistan have plunged the U.S. into a disastrous and critical situation, Kowsari pointed out. He added that the global awakening has jolted U.S. and Israeli officials into making hasty remarks.
