Iranian official meets UN envoy on Syria

TEHRAN,Dec.29(MNA) - Iranian Ambassador to Syria Mohammad Reza Sheibani met with UN-Arab League special envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi in Damascus on Wednesday. The two sides held talks on the latest developments in Syria and discussed Iran’s six-point proposal on Syria. In the proposal, whose details were released on December 16, Iran has called for a halt to all acts of violence in Syria, the distribution of humanitarian aid among the people affected by the crisis which requires the lifting of economic sanctions against the country, national dialogue followed by the establishment of a transitional government agreed by all sides and free parliamentary and presidential elections, release of those arrested for peaceful political activities and a fair trial of criminals, an end to the disinformation campaign against Syria, and the establishment of a committee to assess the damage to the country’s infrastructure. Brahimi expressed his viewpoint on current developments in Syria and said that in line with his regional tours, he will soon visit Iran to hold talks with Iranian officials and will update them on the latest efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis.
