Iran's Finance Minister survives impeachment motion

Tehran, Nov 2, IRNA – Iranian Majlis on Tuesday gave a vote of confidence again to Economy and Finance Minister Shamseddin Hosseini to continue his responsibility in his post. Some 28 mps had earlier called for impeachment of the minister of economy and finance over some controversial issues such as recent financial embezzlement but his explanations to Majlis deputies and speeches by some MPs in his favor helped him retain his post. In defending his performance, the minister blamed the recent financial scandal on the banking system which he said should be revised as soon as possible. Apologizing to the Iranian people and MPs, the minister said all should exercise patience until investigation of judicial system into the matter is completed./end
