Iran`s Majlis approves proposal to reduce ties with Britain
TEHRAN, Nov. 28 (MNA) – Iranian MPs approved a proposal calling for a reduction in the level of diplomatic and trade ties with Britain to a minimum level.
During an open session of the Majlis which was broadcast live by radio on Sunday, lawmakers approved the proposal by a vote of 171 to 3, with 7 abstentions.
MPs voted for the proposal requiring Tehran to reduce its relationship with London to the level of charge d’affaires within two weeks.
The proposal, which would come into force after ratification by the Guardian Council, also requires reduction of the volume of trade to a ‘minimum’ level.
However, the proposal allows the Iranian Foreign Ministry to resume ambassador-level relations if the ‘hostile policy’ of Britain changes.
