Kim Ki Nam Calls upon All Compatriots to Turn out in Struggle for National Reunification

Pyongyang, May 23 (KCNA) -- Kim Ki Nam, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), issued a statement on Saturday, hailing the line of national reunification set forth by supreme leader Kim Jong Un at the 7th Congress of the WPK as an important reunification programme common to the nation to put an end to the history of division and confrontation in conformity with the unanimous desire and wishes of all Koreans and accomplish the historic cause of national reunification. The statement said that it is the firm determination and will of Marshal Kim Jong Un to achieve the country's independent reunification true to the lifetime intention and behests of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il. It went on: An acute military tension is prevailing on the Korean peninsula owing to the U.S. and south Korean authorities' reckless political and military provocations and their constant nuclear threat. This is the factor of threatening the Koreans' existence and blocking their development and national reunification. The U.S. should roll back its anachronistic and hostile policy toward the DPRK and the south Korean authorities should drop their daydream of "unifying the social systems" and respond to the desire and wishes of the compatriots for realizing the reunification by federal formula as agreed between the north and the south in the historic June 15 joint declaration. The south Korean authorities should properly face up to the DPRK's firm will and sincere efforts to improve the inter-Korean relations and bring earlier the country's reunification, though belatedly, roll back their anachronistic policy of toeing the U.S. line and drop the silly idea of standing in confrontation with the fellow countrymen in the north. All compatriots in the north and the south and abroad should fully display the spirit of national independence and might of the great national unity true to the patriotic intention of Kim Jong Un and turn out as one in the nationwide struggle for putting the earliest possible end to the tragedy which has lasted for the last several decades and building an independent, prosperous and reunified power. -0-
