Kontras Keen To Know Implementation Of RI-Timor Leste CTF
Jakarta, Dec 10 (ANTARA) - The Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) has sent a letter to Djoko Suyanto, Indonesia`s Legal and Security Minister, to gain insights into the implementation of the Indonesia-Timor Leste (RI-TL) Commission of Truth and Friendship (CTF).
"The Kontras wants to understand the action plan with regard to the implementation of the RI-TL CTF," said Kontras` spokesperson, Sri Suparyati, on Monday.
According to her, the CTF should be implemented so that human rights violators in Timor Leste can be brought to justice. Human rights violations took place before, during and after the UN-sponsored referendum in 1999.
Sri Suparyati explained that the Commission of Truth and Friendship had submitted its final report to the governments of Indonesia and Timor Leste on July 15, 2008.
She said both the governments have received the final report from the CTF and are determined to implement the CTF, based on an action plan.
"We welcome the Presidential Regulation No.72/2011, on the implementation of the action plan, which has been signed by the Indonesian president on October 6, 2011," she said.
According to her, the Presidential Regulation (article 5, point 2) stipulates that the coordinating minister for political, legal and security affairs should implement the action plan at a national level, organise regular coordination meetings and report the outcome at least once a year to the president.
According to the regulation, the minister should form a working group to monitor the implementation of the action plan with regard to the Commission of Truth and Friendship.
"It is important to understand the development of the action plan with regard to the implementation of the CTF," she said.
