Kyrgyz FM meets with new EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs

Bishkek, Dec.10, 2019. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Chingiz Aidarbekov met with new EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell. At the meeting, held in Brussels (Belgium), the sides discussed the current state of bilateral cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the European Union, and the prospects for its further development in the framework of the implementation of the new Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as the Multi-annual Indicative Program (MIP) for the period of 2021-2027. The High Representative expressed his readiness to continue to provide comprehensive assistance and support to the Kyrgyz Republic in the implementation of reforms. The sides also discussed the new EU Strategy for Central Asia and the results of the 15th meeting of the EU-CA Foreign Ministers. Special attention was paid to the preparation and holding of the first EU-CA Economic Forum, to be held in Kyrgyz capital Bishkek in 2020. On 1 December, Josep Borrell assumed the post of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission. Josep Borrell, former Foreign Minister of Spain, assumed the post as High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Vice-President of the European Commission, headed by new President Ursula von der Leyen.
