Kyrgyz FM, WIPO Director General discuss bilateral cooperation

Bishkek, Oct.9, 2019. /Kabar/. During his visit to Geneva to participate in the UN High-Level Segment on Statelessness, Kyrgyzstan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Chingiz Aidarbekov met with Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Francis Gurry.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, the issues of bilateral cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and WIPO, and ways of its further development through programs and projects of the organization in Kyrgyzstan were discussed.
Director General Gurry highly appreciated the efforts of Kyrgyzstan to contribute to the strengthening of intellectual property and innovation in the international arena, and the successful implementation of the State Strategy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of intellectual property for the period 2017-2021.
He also stressed the readiness of the organization to continue close cooperation with Kyrgyzstan.
FM Aidarbekov, noting the importance of innovation for modern economic development, stressed the special role of cooperation with WIPO for Kyrgyzstan, and also thanked for the contribution of the organization in the successful work of the relevant structures of the country in the field of intellectual property and innovation.
The sides agreed that the competent authorities of Kyrgyzstan and WIPO will build up a mutually beneficial partnership in order to find new forms of cooperation, and strengthen the role of intellectual property and innovation in the economic development of the country.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is one of the 15 specialized agencies of the United Nations (UN). WIPO was created in 1967 "to encourage creative activity, to promote the protection of intellectual property throughout the world".
WIPO currently has 192 member states, administers 26 international treaties, and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
