Legal cooperation between Kyrgyzstan, Belgium discussed in Brussels

Bishkek, Dec.10, 2019. /Kabar/. Belgium’s Brussels hosted the bilateral meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Chingiz Aidarbekov with Federal Prosecutor of Belgium Frédéric Van Leeuw.
According to the press service of the Kyrgyz MFA, the sides discussed issues of legal cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Belgium, as well as issues related to the protection of the rights and interests of the Kyrgyzstanis.
FM Aidarbekov informed the Belgian federal prosecutor about the current reforms in the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of justice, as well as the new EU strategy for Central Asia.
The parties agreed to promote legal cooperation between the countries, to exchange experience in the field of combating money laundering, terrorism and illicit drug trafficking.
Federal Prosecutor of Belgium Frédéric Van Leeuw shared his information on the measures taken in the country in the above-mentioned areas, and expressed his readiness to assist in promoting cooperation between countries.
The Belgian Federal Prosecutor's Office is a public authority with jurisdiction over the entire Belgian territory. It was created to act more effectively against crimes that fall outside the jurisdiction of local prosecutors, such as human trafficking, terrorism, organized crime and money-laundering.
The Federal Prosecutor's Office is also responsible for serious violations of international humanitarian law. In addition, its exercises the functions in facilitating the establishment and development of international cooperation.
The Federal Prosecutors Office is composed of federal magistrates headed by a federal prosecutor and is based in Brussels.
