Lubna Al Qasimi discusses means to enhance partnership with the UN

ABU DHABI, 10th September, 2015 (WAM) -- Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development (MICAD) and Head of the UAE Committee for the Coordination of Humanitarian Foreign Aid, has confirmed the UAE keenness under the guidance of the wise leadership on building and enhancing its partnerships with international institutions undertake development and humanitarian work.
Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi met Stephen O’Brien, Under-Secretary-General and Emergency Relief Coordinator and his accompanying delegation to the UN at the headquarters of the ministry in Abu Dhabi. She reviewed on the sidelines of the meeting, the efforts of the UAE , under the directions of the wise leadership of the state represented by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
She discussed the UAE’s efforts and contributions in development and humanitarian work fields, especially the active role of the Emirati humanitarian aid organisations, and its quick response to the consequences of the humanitarian crisis in different parts of the world. She also confirmed that by the building of partnerships and international cooperation, humanitarian and international support will be affected positively. "These outcomes will be achieved through integration and unification of efforts and work toward mutual humanitarian goals. Agencies will be able to support the capacity of developing countries in order to provide better living conditions for them," she added.
Sheikha Lubna commended the efforts of the UN in their response to the humanitarian crisis and the support provided by the international community’s efforts to provide a shelter for those affected by conflicts and natural disasters, and support the humanitarian response. "UAE looks forward to deepening relationships with the UN committees who are supporting international development and humanitarian response," she said.
During the meeting they discussed mutual efforts in response to the humanitarian crises in Syria, Iraq and Yemen, also highlighting the UAE achievements in these areas.
O’Brien praised the role UAE has historically played in providing humanitarian aid for many peoples across the world, particularly for Syrian and Yemeni crises.
According to UN records, UAE is the largest humanitarian aid provider in Yemen, which demonstrates country’s commitment to support humanitarian efforts and its firm position to provide aid assistance to people in need all over the world.
He hailed the discussions and meetings held between humanitarian institutions and UAE, particularly in the context of exploring new opportunities for cooperation, enhancing mutual efforts and exchanging expertise in international development and discussing current development issues.
