Lubna stresses U.A.E.'s commitment to support Syrian refugees

BERLIN: Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development (MICAD) and Head of U.A.E. National Committee for the Coordination of Foreign Aid, has affirmed U.A.E.'s commitment to provide support and alleviate the sufferings of the Syrian refugees. Sheikha Lubna, who made the remarks during her participation in the "Berlin Conference on the Syrian Refugee Situation – Supporting Stability in the Region", said that the U.A.E., through its humanitarian foundations and UN competent agencies, has provided Dh 378 million in 2014 for 856 Palestinians and displaced Syrians in Syria. In her statement, Sheikha Lubna pointed out that the U.A.E. aid was diversified and included the provision of food security, health care, water supplies and sewerage projects, education and shelters for the advantage of around 420,000 Syrian refugees at Al Zaartari and Azraq Refugees Camps in Jordan. She added that the U.A.E has constructed the joint Emirati-Jordanian Refugee Camp in Marjeeb Al Fahood, in Jordan, which accommodates over 5,000 Syrian refugees and has recently completed its expansion to receive 10,000 refugees. She also added that the U.A.E. has also established the U.A.E. field hospital at Marfraq Area, Jordan which was constructed in August 2012 and can provide medical service to over 8,000 persons in a daily basis.
