Majority of Thais vote for draft charter referendum: Polls

BANGKOK, Aug 7 (TNA) - Two opinion polls, conducted before the Sunday’s referendum revealed that most Thais said they would vote for the new constitution. The two polls conducted by the National Institute for Development Administration, or NIDA Poll and Bangkok Polls of Bangkok University’s Research Center were disclosed after the referendum ended at 4 pm today. According to NIDA Poll conducted among almost 6,000 people, the majority or 76.87 % said they would vote for the draft charter while 18.68% would reject it. Regarding the additional question about how they will decide on a proposal for appointed senators to vote along with members of the House of Representatives to elect the prime minister during a five-year transitional period, most of the respondents or 58.35% said they would accept it and 38.26 % would vote against it. Meanwhile, the opinion polls, conducted among about 9,500 people across the country by Bangkok Poll of Bangkok University’s Research Center disclosed that 57.3 % of the respondents would vote for the draft charter while 42.7% would vote against it.
