Mohamed bin Zayed, President Obama hold phone talks over latest regional developments

ABU DHABI, 19th December, 2015 (WAM) - His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has received a telephone call from US President Barack Obama, during which they discussed progress of bilateral ties and a variety of topics of mutual concern. Sheikh Mohamed and President Obama affirmed the depth of UAE-US ties and explored ways of furthering them so as to serve mutual interests of the two friendly countries and their peoples. While taking stock of the latest developments and issues in the Middle East with a focus on the Syrian crisis, the two sides exchanged views on on-going efforts and preparations to end the crisis. On terrorism and extremism, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and President Obama emphasised the need for coordinating and unifying efforts in this respect, noting to the importance of the formation of the Islamic alliance to counter terrorist organisations. They considered the initiative a complementary step to efforts aimed at establishing pillars of stability and security in the region and confronting extremism and its organisations which seek to spread chaos and destruction and terrorise people. During the telephone conversation, they also tackled the latest developments in Yemen and efforts being made to reach a political solution based on international legitimacy resolutions and stressed the importance of ensuring success of on-going talks between Yemeni parties in Geneva to implement UN Security Council resolutions. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395289407216.html
