Mokran Coastal Area, Iranˈs Golden Gate: Commander

Tehran, June 16, IRNA – Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said on Monday that the Mokran coastal area in southeast of Iran is highly crucial for Iran and is considered as the countryˈs ˈgolden gate.ˈ He made the remarks during a press conference held in the Iranian capital on development of Mokran coastal area. Mokran coastal region locates in Iranˈs southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan and Pakistanˈs southwestern Baluchistan province. It is a 600-mi (1,000-km) stretch along the Gulf of Oman from Raˈs (cape) al-Kūh, Iran (west of Jask), to Lasbela District, Pakistan (near Karāchi). Having a long coastal line (about 3,000 km), Iran has to make ultimate use of its coastal and water resources, said the rear admiral noting that Iran attaches great importance to Mokran region. He noted that Tehran could meet its energy and sea food demands from the sea and under the sea bed resources. Sayyari said that Iran could use its sea resources to provide food, meet its needs to fossil energy laid on and under the sea bed, use new tidal power resources and conduct its sea trade./end
