MONGOLIA TO PROTECT WILD HORSE TOGETHER WITH JAPAN

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ A head of the Presedential Office, P. Tsagaan and Mr Koichi Murano, the General director of Construction Department of Tokyo, Japan, signed a memorandum on protection of the wild horse /Equus ferus/ on November 26. The Equus ferus or wild horse is a rare and endangered subspecies of wild horse native to the steps of Central Asia, specially Mongolia. The President Ts.Elbegdorj visited in the “Tama” zoo park of Tokyo and spoke about the wild horse protection during his visit to Japan in 2010. This zoo a unique zoological park, where animals are displayed under naturalistic and spectacular habitats set up in its vast land of 52 ha (129 acres). The zoo has three ecological areas, such as the Asiatic Garden, African Garden and Australian Garden, and the Insectarium. Then a working group, led by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Nature, Environment and Tourism, supported the President's idea and began participating in the animals protection. The International “Takhi” group initiated activities such as searching the wild horse, gathering them in one place and transporting by plane. By today, the President's office, the “Takhi” group and the “Tama” park are ready to jointly transport five wild horses from a zoological park of Zurich to Tokyo in the end of 2012. Present at the ceremony of signing a memorandum were the advisor to President on environmental issues E.Zorigt, an advisor to the "Takhi" group E.Dorjraa, a senior advisor to the Assembly of Tokyo city Toshiya Mita and others.
