MONGOLIAN DELEGATION AT UN CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A Mongolian delegation is participating in the 2012 UN Climate Change Conference (COP18/CMP8) that is running Doha, Qatar. The delegation consists of Ms S.Oyun, the Minister of Environment and Green Development, and G.Bayarsaikhan, the head of the parliamentary Standing committee. The conference has brought together Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Emir of Qatar; Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary-General; and State Heads of some ten countries and Ministers of over 100 states. Mr Ban addressed the media at this gathering to speak about the "growing crisis" of climate change and to underline that "our actions need to match the scale of the challenge." The participants are discussing the possible extension of the Kyoto Protocol, which was slated to expire at the end of 2012, and are addressing the further development of the 2011 Durban Platform, which seeks a Post-Kyoto Protocol to be developed by 2015 and in force by 2020, also a status of "Fast Start" funding commitments ($30 Billion USD) made at the 2009 COP15 Copenhagen accord, a progress in the development and funding of the $100 billion USD per year Green Climate Fund, defined in the 2010 United Nations Climate Change Conference and launched at the 2011's Conference. The Mongolian delegation is to deliver a report at the Conference on activities of Mongolia to reduce climate affect, on adaptation and greenhouse gas reduction. B.Khuder
