Nabam Tuki sworn in as Arunachal Chief Minister
Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh, India, Nov 1 (PTI) Dissident leader Nabam Tuki was today sworn in as the seventh Chief Minister of the northeast Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh ending a two week long political drama over the demand for leadership change.
Tuki, Congress party chief in the state who had led the dissent against his predecessor Jarbom Gamlin, was sworn in by the state's Governor J J Singh in the presence of Congress party's observers central minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, former central minister B K Handique and party's general secretary in-charge of Arunachal Pradesh Dhaniram Shandil.
Tuki was chosen as Gamlin's successor by the Congress party's central leadership. Gamlin had stepped down yesterday following which 40 of the 42 Congress party legislators in the Arunachal state assembly had signed a one-point resolution authorising the party president Mrs Sonia Gandhi to appoint a new leader.
The total strength of the Arunachal Pradesh state legislative assembly is 60.
Gamlin was chief minister for nearly six months. He had been sworn in as chief minister of the state on May five after the death of former Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu in an aircrash. PTI
