Nothing could damage Iran-Iraq fraternal ties: Ahmadinejad

TEHRAN, Nov. 19 (MNA) – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that nothing can undermine fraternal relations between Tehran and Baghdad. The president made the remarks during a meeting with Iraq’s Army Chief Lieutenant General Babakir Zebari late on Thursday. “The arrogant powers are only seeking to serve their own interests and have no respect for the rights and cultures of the other nations. So, in this condition, independent nations and governments must further strengthen their ties,” Ahmadinejad said. He stated that Iran and Iraq could play influential roles in the developments occurring in the world, adding, “The two countries can have effective cooperation to help a just system prevail in the world while safeguarding their national interests.” Elsewhere in his remarks, the president said that independent countries, including Iran and Iraq, should help regional countries emancipate from the hegemony of the domineering powers. Ahmadinejad also said, “The Iraqi government is able to maintain security very well” and help the country make progress and achieve dignity and complete sovereignty. For his part, Zibari said the two countries have many affinities, adding that the Iraqi government attaches great significance to relations with Iran and is keen to increase cooperation with it. The top commander also said, “No power could undermine the deep relations between the two countries.”
