NUCLEAR WEAPON-FREE STATUS OF MONGOLIA ADOPTED BY UNGA
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ At its meeting, the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly on Disarmament and International Security has adopted a draft resolution on security and nuclear weapon-free status of Mongolia which was submitted to the 67th session of the UN General Assembly.
By the resolution, the GA has appreciated the declarations of Mongolia's nuclear weapon-free status which were signed September 17 of 2012 by the nuclear weapon-states the USA, Russia, the Great Britain, China and France for disarmament and proliferation of nuclear weapons and strengthening of the regional confidence.
In addition, the GA highly spoke measures taken by Mongolia for forwarding its status, and then urged the UN member-states to cooperate with Mongolia in protecting and strengthening the independence and sovereignty, independent foreign policy, economic security, ecological balance and the nuclear weapon-free status. Clauses have been reflected in the resolution about requesting the UN Secretary-General and other related organizations' leaders to support Mongolia.
Initiated by Mongolia, the resolution has co-authors as Australia, USA, the United Kingdom, China, Russia, France, Mexico and Morocco.
