Ombudsman acting chief to officially visit South Korea

BANGKOK, Dec 16 (TNA) -- Acting Ombudsman Chief Gen Witthawat Rachatanan is scheduled to officially visit South Korea on December 18 to attend a meeting with the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) of South Korea, aimed to strengthen ties between both countries' ombudsman cooperation to help lift the living quality of Thai labours in South Korea. Secretary-general of the Office of the Ombudsman Raksakecha Chaechai said Gen Witthawat, in his capacity as an executive of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) Asia Regional Office, together with a group of representatives from the Ombudsman Office of Thailand are set for an official visit to South Korea on December 18 to attend a meeting with Vice President of ACRC Kin In-Soo, in which the meeting would also be attended by Minister Valaikorn Sivarak and Labour Attache Ms Kanjana Wongsuwan. Mr Raksakechal noted that after the meeting, Gen Witthawat would also meet with over 200 Thai labour representatives, entrepreneurs, and people presently residing in South Korea at the Seoul Puttharangsri Temple. Mr Raksakecha said the ombudsman acting chief would also coordinate with relevant South Korean government agencies to provide more knowledge for Thai labours there, as well as to provide better protection and assistance for Thai workers on various aspects. He said Gen Witthawat also stressed that assistance must also be provided to South Korean labours in Thailand for unjust treatments from their Thai employers as well. The secretary pointed out that the upcoming visit would also help to strengthen the good cooperation between both countries' ombudsman offices with an aim to raise the quality of life of Thai labours in South Korea, as well as to increase the standard on complaint management to provide better assistance to Thai workers.
