Pakistani lawmaker rejects UN report on Iran

Islamabad, Oct 25, IRNA - A Pakistani parliamentarian on Monday strongly rejected a United Nations (UN) report on human rights in Iran. UN special rapporteur Ahmed Shaheed has alleged in a 21-page report that human rights violations have increased in Iran. Iran's Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Eshaq Al-e-Habib has dismissed the report terming it as “unacceptable and invalid.” Speaking to IRNA, Senator Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) termed the report as meaningless. “I reject the UN report, it has no credibility and it is baseless”, he added. The political was of the view that UN has always towed US policy and the dictation of US was obvious in making of Shaheed's report. He added that UN was not an independent body. Tahir Hussain Mashhadi referred to Iran as a democratic country where people were free to express their opinion. “Voice of people is being given importance in the Islamic Republic”, the political leader added. “I had the honor of visiting Iran three times and I was really impressed to see the way the Iranian society is progressing”, said the Senator. Tahir Hussain Mashhadi stated there was complete freedom in Iran and that it was the most peaceful country of the world. Expressing his views the politician added bashing Iran has become a favorite topic in the west. Iran has achieved the status of a respectable nation because of their dynamic leadership, said the lawmaker adding, “Iran is progressing despite western conspiracies.” The parliamentarian also viewed that Iran has become self-sufficient in every field although western countries were disturbed on the development of that country. Tahir Hussain Mashhadi added western countries have been leveling baseless allegations on Iran. “Sometimes they (west) try to create misunderstanding between Iran and other Muslim states”, opined the senator. He said despite all western plots, Iran has become a strong nation./end
