PM presses forward for national reform

BANGKOK, Feb 2 (TNA) -- Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha presses forward national reforms mapping out a policy framework, reconciliation and long-term. The premier called a meeting at Government House with cabinet ministers and representatives of key agencies on Wednesday to discuss reform strategies. The meeting came after his government recently sets up a “super-committee” which he describes as the most important mechanism’ for reform, growth and reconciliation. After some critics speculated that the panel was meant for the military to cling on to power, Gen Prayut reiterated that he had considered for some time about such panel to hold responsibility for the reform agenda to advance the country over the next 15 years. The body will act as the strategic policy supervisor and command body with three sub-committees: the reform preparation committee, the national strategy preparation committee, and the reconciliation preparation committee. President of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) Pornpetch Wichitcholchai said the NLA would expedite relevant draft generic laws for the assembly’s deliberations. Under the process, political parties have been invited for talks on reconciliation. (TNA)
