PM reiterates to lay strong foundation for the country’s democratic reforms
NEW YORK, Sept 24 (TNA) -- Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha vows to lay strong foundation for the country’s democratic reforms in a meeting with Thai expatriates during his visit to attend UN conference in New York.
Gen Prayut Chan-ocha has traveled to New York to attend the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 71) and preside over the Ministerial Meeting of G77 countries.
The premier who led the coup in May 2014 briefed the gathering on the goals of progress since he seized the power.
Gen Prayut said his two-year in office had been satisfactory with smiles returning on the faces of the people, and peace was restored after over a decade of political instability.
Many tasks his government faced are the many problems had been neglected or left off by previous governments, he said.
He thanked those who support the government in pursuing the goals of national stability and prosperity as well as establishing strong ground works for democratic system.
Calling on people with different opinions to listen to others, while urging the news media to refrain from widening the conflict or distorting facts, Prayut said.
In New York, Gen Prayut joined other leaders in discussing and exchanging viewpoints under this year’s topic, entitled ‘The Sustainable Development Goals: the Universal Push to Transform our World’.
The prime minister has stressed on Thailand’s efforts in national security and social and economic development on which the UN places great importance. (TNA)
