Poll finds national reconciliation a must
BANGKOK, May 6 (TNA) -- As a general election is expected to be held in Thailand around late 2018, a recent poll finds that most people in the survey want politicians to cooperate with the current government to build reconciliation among people in the country.
The survey, conducted by Suan Dusit Poll on 1,152 people nationwide between May 1-5, found that 71.61 per cent of the total respondents wanted politicians to cooperate with the government in building a favourable political climate in Thailand and to also exercise their experience in helping developing the country.
68.75 per cent of the total respondents wanted to see free and fair general election and 66.15 per cent urged politicians to visit village people and listen to their grievances.
According to the survey, 77.86 of the respondents wanted political parties to closely monitor developments of the general election so that canvassers would be fully prepared.
74.74 per cent of the respondents also wanted political parties to screen appropriate persons to contest the election while 69.79 per cent of them wanted political parties to specify clearly their policies in contesting the election.
With many problems occurring in the country presently, 70.31 per cent of the total respondents said the people should avoid creating problems by strictly obeying the law followed by 67.45 per cent calling for people to closely follow when the election would be organised and 53.62 per cent urged eligible voters to cast their votes in the election.
