PRESIDENT CONGRATULATES GEC ON ITS ANNIVERSARY

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The President Ts.Elbegdorj has congratulated the General Election Commission on its 20th anniversary. In his congratulatory letter sent Wednesday, the President underlines that the GEC, based on a democratic principle and developing of a fair elections system, has played a main role in re-establishing the Mongolian state and government. The GEC has carried out the parliamentary election six times and the Presidential election five time, has rendered a professional and methodological assistance to elections of Citizens' Representative Khurals organized six times, he says. The GEC has focused great attention to refining upon the elections system and laws, to propagandizing them and to increasing a participation of the media, state and public organizations in supporting voters' knowledge on laws in order to make the elections more fair and transparent, he goes on. "Since transmitted into the democratic system some 20 years ago, Mongolia has gained big achievements in reforming the state administrative institutions and legislative bodies, their activities, in forming the civil society, and in the relations between people and the state. The GEC has significantly contributed to it," Mr Elbegdorj underlines. "This year, the GEC used for the first time innovations such as automatic techniques and technologies in the elections of parliament and Citizens' Representative Khurals, and has collected votes from Mongolians abroad," he emphasizes.
