President Nursultan Nazarbayev meets ambassadors in Astana
Astana, 11 December 2008, (Khabar) - Nursultan Nazarbayev has addressed accredited foreign diplomats in Kazakhstan at the capital’s Presidential residence, the Ak Orda and held a regular meeting involving heads of foreign diplomatic missions in the Republic. The head of state urged Kazakhstan’s international partners to strengthen their cooperation to effectively overcome the global economic recession. Astana is now widely known as Kazakhstan’s diplomatic centre. Today, close to 50 diplomatic missions are in operation with offices in the capital city. The majority of foreign ambassadors and consuls have now made the move to Astana from the previous capital city, Almaty.
The Azerbaijani ambassador Lyatif Gandilov, who has worked in Kazakhstan for five years now, passed on to the president a common opinion of foreign diplomats regarding the situation in Kazakhstan. According to the majority of diplomats, stability, powerful economic growth, the development of the capital city and the growth of the Ak Orda’s international authority are all noteworthy features of the country. In his speech, the president touched upon the current situation in Kazakhstan. The Republic’s economic growth in 2008 totaled 5% despite the ongoing difficulties in the economy. The country is also successfully implementing its political reformation programme while the Republic’s population lives in peace and stability. Speaking about the country’s external policy, Nursultan Nazarbayev reassured the ambassadors present that Kazakhstan will continue following its peaceful diplomacy aimed at the strengthening of confidence abroad and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan:
- Now, when the world is full of events that we are all concerned about, I think our unity should become stronger. We can all see that we can overcome this crisis only by means of joint efforts. This is why world leaders are now having meetings and discussing such problems. By joining our efforts, we can also fight extremism, radicalism and terrorism. The world is now becoming smaller and cooperation should become the most important issue for all of us. Regional integration is also important. I would also like to reassure you that Kazakhstan will continue proposing issues of peace, cooperation and accord. We would like to continue working with all the countries that we cooperate with.
The meeting ended with President’s congratulations on the past and forth-coming holidays and a group photo.
