Putin ready to meet with Obama, but there is no agreements on such contact - Peskov

SOCHI, September 15. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to meet with his U.S. counterpart, Barack Obama, but so far there is no agreement on such contact, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday. "President Putin is always open for dialogue, especially with his counterpart, President Obama," Peskov said. "But so far, there are no such agreements." When asked to comment on the words by White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest about President Obama’s readiness to meet with the Russian leader, Peskov said, "There has always been absolute reciprocity." "Such readiness has always been on the Russia part," he added. Contact between Putin and Obama has become very rare after differences over the Ukrainian crisis had emerged between the two countries. Their last meeting took place a year ago, in November 2014 when both presidents took part in the APEC summit in China. In the recent months, their contacts have been reduced to occasional telephone conversations. Another possibility for a personal meeting may present itself during the Russian leader’s visit to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly in late September. Read more
