Rodong Sinmun Blasts S. Korean Military for Arms Build-up and War Drill

Pyongyang, December 12 (KCNA) -- The south Korean military decided to introduce lots of foreign-made weapons and equipment at a recent meeting of the Committee for the Promotion of Defence. The military staged a combined drill for the combat preparedness of the Air Force, crying out for "security measure" to cope with drill vacuum. Rodong Sinmun says in a commentary Wednesday that the large-scale arms build-up and war drill is product of the attempt for showdown with the DPRK behind the curtain of dialogue. The commentary continues: The misbehavior of the south Korean military is reminiscent of the reckless acts in the era of confrontation when the trigger-happy forces were trying to ignite a war with the clamor about the "theory that the north is a principal enemy" and "preemptive attack". Under the past conservative regime the south Korean war mongers were hell-bent on military provocation against the fellow countrymen with the help of foreign forces. As a result, the distrust and confrontation between the north and south of Korea were escalated and the situation always remained tense. The military should learn a lesson from the reckless act of the former conservative regime which resorted to the foolish military confrontation with the north to drive the inter-Korean ties to the brink of war. Any military action against dialogue partner destroys confidence between the north and south and has side effect on the north-south relations and the situation in the Korean peninsula. The south Korean military would be well-advised to behave itself, well aware of the consequences to be entailed by the reckless arms build-up and war drill. -0-
