Rodong Sinmun Observes Anniversary of June 10th Independence Movement

Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Saturday says in an article that the June 10th Independence Movement in which the Koreans massively rose up against the cruel colonial rule of the Japanese imperialists in 1926 was an eruption of their long pent-up resentment at the Japanese imperialist aggressors and an expression of their patriotic will to take back the usurped sovereign right of the nation. Though 90 years have passed since then, the people in the southern half of Korea are still groaning under the foreign domination, the article notes, and goes on: The U.S. imperialists, who occupied south Korea following the liberation of Korea from the Japanese imperialists, have viciously obstructed the reunification of Korea and egged the south Korean traitorous ruling quarters onto confrontation with the fellow countrymen in the north for the past 70 years, pursuing the strategy for dominating Korea. The Japanese reactionaries are shamelessly distorting history, persistently denying their past crimes against the Korean nation, far from admitting them and making an apology for them. It is quite natural for the south Korean people of all social strata to wage a strenuous patriotic struggle to achieve the sovereignty of the nation, greatly enraged by the conservative authorities' sycophancy towards the U.S. and submission to Japan. -0-
