Rodong Sinmun Terms U.S. Forces' Occupation of S. Korea Illegal

Pyongyang, April 6 (KCNA) -- Shortly ago, the Chinese Huan Qiu Shibao carried an article titled "The illegal U.S.-south Korea 'mutual defense treaty'" written by the director of the institute for military law of a Chinese university. The writer asserted in an article that the U.S.-south Korea "mutual defense treaty" is a direct threat to world peace and security as it is the illegal one which abused the right of collective self-defense stipulated in the UN Charter. Commenting on this, Rodong Sinmun Wednesday says that there is some sense in the assertion and a lot of foreign scholars have shared similar views with the assertion since long ago. The commentary goes on: In view of the Korean Armistice Agreement and the 51st article of the UN Charter, the U.S.-south Korea "mutual defense treaty" is the abuse of the right of collective self-defense and open challenge to it. The U.S. forces in south Korea are to blame for all sorts of crimes such as murder, rape and robbery there and they are also to blame the root cause of ceaseless confrontation between the fellow countrymen on the Korean peninsula. The U.S. imperialists have staged illegal nuclear war drills with the south Korean puppet forces every year in a bid to inflict a nuclear disaster upon the Korean people. The U.S. would be well advised to admit the illegality of its forces' occupation of south Korea and withdraw them from it in time. -0-
