Rohani: Syria Should Enjoy Support Vis-a-Vis Zionism

Tehran, Jan 11, IRNA – Head Iran’s Expediency Council’s Center for Strategic Studies Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday that Syria as the frontrunner should not be left weakened vis-a-vis the Zionist regime. Rohani made the remarks in a meeting with Turkish Ambassador to Tehran Umit Yardim. Yardim urged other states not to interfere in Syrian affairs and said Syria has a remarkable status in the region and during the past 60 years has acted as the frontrunner vis-a-vis the Zionist regime. On Iraqi developments, he said no one should interferer in Iraq’s domestic affairs and any crisis should be resolved by the Iraqi nation themselves. He called for close cooperation between Iran and Turkey to help restore stability and security in Iraq. Meanwhile, Rohani referred to the waves of Islamic Awakening in the Middle East and North of Africa and said countries such as the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkey should spare no efforts to help resolve regional crises and play leading role to neutralize conspiracies of the arrogant powers and Zionists taking fish from troubled waters. The Turkish ambassador, for his part, described Tehran-Ankara relations excellent and on upward trend and said grounds for expansion of political, economic and cultural cooperation is well prepared. He called for exchange of more visits and negotiations between senior officials from the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkey./end
